It is with great sadness that family and friends announce the passing of Thomas August Fabian on June 21st, 2024, in Sacramento, CA. On that day, while being transported to a hospital by ambulance, his heart stopped and resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. Tom was born on August 13, 1946 in Sacramento, and was the beloved brother of Georgia Fabian Meyer, and a one of a kind friend to many.
Tom was a true renaissance man and entrepreneur. He was a musician and founder of the 1960s band, The Fugitives, from Sacramento. Later he invented a way to print on the crooked straight pen and undertook many other endeavors. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to others.
Tom will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, love of life, generous heart and quirky jokes. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tom’s mother, Betsy Jean Fabian, and his father, August George Fabian, passed away several years ago. Tom’s Great Grandfather was August Martin Fabian, who immigrated from Koethen, Germany in the late 1800’s along with his 5 brothers and 3 of his sisters. The brothers opened a grocery store and eventually built a 2-story building on the corner of 8th and J streets, naming it “Fabian Building”. They were known as: Fabian Brothers - General Merchants - Established 1877. The building was torn down in the 1990’s and a multi-story office building and parking structure built on the site. The Fabian Building sign was preserved and is stored at The Center for Sacramento History.
