Ramiro Amezcua passed away on April 19, 2026, at the age of 70. Born on June 1, 1955, to Martin Amezcua and Margarita Elizondo, in Tijuana, Mexico, he grew up in a large family of eight brothers and sisters, with two sets of twins—he being one of them. His life was centered on family, hard work, and music. At the age of 11, he moved with his family to the United States, where he began adapting to a new life and laying the foundation for his future. Ramiro attended school in Stockton, CA and eventually went on to graduate from Edison High School, Class of 1974. In 1981 he met and married his first wife, while attending Sacramento State University and together they had three children, who remained a central part of his life. Ramiro was known for his strong work ethic and his commitment to providing for his family—traits he credited to his mother. He dedicated more than 35 years of service to the State of California, retiring in 2017 and worked at GSO Overnight for 13 years before retiring in 2019. An avid musician, Ramiro loved to sing and could play several instruments, with the guitar and drums being his favorites. When his children were young, he would take out his guitar and they all would sing together, El Noa Noa and Buenos Dias Señor Sol by Juan Gabriel to name a couple. In the late 1990s, he played in a band alongside some of his siblings, performing cover songs from popular artists. He was always sharing songs he would learn to play on the guitar "aver, mira lo que me enseñe". Although Ramiro was a longtime permanent resident of the United States, he proudly became a U.S. citizen in 2016. In this same year, he married his current wife and life partner, Mercedes after 3 years of dating. Together, they shared a life of love and companionship—taking on DIY home renovation projects, traveling, singing in a church band on Sundays, hanging out with family on the weekends and simply enjoying each other’s company. Some of his most memorable times were spent visiting Mercedes' family in Columbia, where he immersed himself in the culture and way of life. Ramiro was incredibly proud to be a grandfather to ten grandchildren and was overjoyed to soon become a great-grandfather. He cherished spending time with them, watching them grow and celebrating their accomplishments. He was a big kid at heart with never ending "dad jokes". He enjoyed the outdoors and took pride in working on his home and yard. He loved teaching his sons everything he knew about cars, often spending time working on them together. Tuesdays were reserved for golf and he looked forward to tee-off with his brothers, Priest and nephews. In the more recent years, he deepened his Catholic faith, attending Mass regularly and committing himself to reading the Bible from beginning to end. During this time, he turned his musical talents to playing the bass guitar during Mass and singing alongside his wife and family—an experience that brought him great pride, peace, and fulfillment. A life well lived. However, taken too soon. Ramiro will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Family was everything to him and we will all remember his humor, miss his jokes, his laugh and big cheesy smile that stretched from ear to ear.
