Jerry Ponciano, aged 79, passed away on Saturday, December 28, in a Sacramento hospital after a
prolonged illness. Born in Reno, Nevada, to parents Walter Sr. and Heloise Ponciano, Jerry was one of six
siblings alongside Walter Jr., Raymond, Judy, Heloise, and Joseph. The family eventually settled in
Sacramento, California. Jerry pursued a career as a newspaper journeyman, dedicating over five decades
to the profession in Berkeley and Sacramento. Outside of work, he delighted in watching the San
Francisco Giants and 49ers, enjoyed bowling, and cherished family gatherings. Jerry's legacy is carried
forward by his daughter Christina McKinley of Texas, his son Eric Ponciano of Napa, California, five
grandchildren—Alexis, Brittany, Kylie, Seth, and Jalani—and three great-grandchildren—Ayden, Brielle, and
Makenna—who will all remember him fondly and miss him dearly.
