Colonel (Ret) James (Jim) Barry (97) died at Regency Place in Sacramento, California
on April 26, 2026. He was born on September 28, 1928, in Boulder, Colorado. He
married Betty Lee Barry in Turlock, CA on August 24,1963, thus beginning a marriage of
over 50 years. Jim served in the California Army National Guard for more than 30
years. During that time, he served as Chief of Staff of the 175th Medical Brigade, State
Emergency Officer, and other postings. Jim's surviving loved ones include son James
Barry Jr. (married to Blythe) of Goshen, KY, and grandchildren Seamus Barry, Madeline
Barry, and McKenna Barry. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Roberts of
Denair, California and his niece, Sharon Combs Tuttle. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Betty Lee Barry, his sister, Joyce Combs, and his son, Patrick Lee Barry.
Jim was a long-time member of 14th Avenue Baptist Church, serving in many capacities
over the years: Director of Sunday Schools, Sunday school teacher, Director of
Discipleship training, Bible Study leader, Web page and Member database
administrator, vocalist on the worship team, as well as a charter member of the Pastor
Management Team. Those wishing to do so may make donations to 14th Avenue

Service will be held at 14th Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11
A.M.
