Edward G. Borgens, Jr., born January 20, 1939 in San Diego, passed on peacefully in his sleep October 14, 2023 in Sacramento. Predeceased by his parents, Edward G. Borgens, Sr. and Helen Z. Donofrio, he is survived by his wife Helen, children Georgianna (Eric, and sons Oliver and Charles) and Edward (Beth), and extended family. He grew up in San Diego and Los Angeles, and graduated from UCLA and later from Thunderbird Graduate School in Phoenix. Ed worked from his early teens until his 60s in various businesses and most happily as a community college instructor for many years in San Diego. In 1992, he patented a solar oven, and in 2004, his book, Background of the Monroe Doctrine, was published. After retirement he returned to his college sport – rowing – as a referee for races across California. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, love of rowing, and enthusiastic teaching. No service is planned. The family suggests memorial tributes to UCLA’s crew team or another rowing club. The family thanks the staff of The Meadows at Country Place, Absolute Compassion Hospice, ACC’s Maple Tree Village and Care Center, and Capital Transitional Care who lovingly cared for Ed this past year.
