Debra Flora Gilliam

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Debra Gilliam on January 23 2025 at the age of 73. Debra was a woman of immense strength, compassion, and dedication, whose life was a testament to love and service.

Debra was born on November 27, 1951 in San Francisco, California to Celestine Epinosa. She graduated from Sacramento High School in 1969 and later in life went on to pursue her passion for nursing, earning her nursing license in the early 1980s.

For over 30 years, Debra served as a nurse in long-term care facilities mostly in Sacramento California, eventually becoming a Medical Records Director. She was known for her firm yet gentle approach, ensuring the best care for her patients. A fierce advocate for the elderly, Debra tirelessly advised her peers on advancing in their medical careers, always seeking to improve the lives of those around her.

Debra's life was enriched by her over 45 year marriage to William Gilliam, with whom she raised two wonderful sons, Simon and Matthew. Her kindness and generosity extended beyond her immediate family to her many siblings, friends, and the wider community. Debra was always supportive, a beacon of encouragement and love for all who knew her.

An avid reader, Debra delighted in exploring new cuisines and enjoying a wide variety of movies. Her curiosity and zest for life were evident in everything she did.

When William was diagnosed with kidney cancer, Debra’s unwavering dedication shone through as she became his primary caregiver, prioritizing his well-being until his passing. Shortly after, she faced her own battle with cancer. Through her strong will, deep faith, and the devoted care of her sons, Debra defied medical expectations and fought bravely, inspiring everyone around her.

A memorial service to celebrate Debra's life will be held on February 22, 2025 at 10:30am at St. Rose Catholic Church 5961 Franklin Blvd Sacramento, CA 95824.
