Bernadine Antoinette Poole, a spirited and beloved member of the Sacramento community, passed
away on October 03, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on January 6, 1940, in Sacramento, California,
Bernadine’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and the unyielding will to embrace every moment.
Bernadine was the cherished daughter of Tony and Carmen DeFazio, from whom she inherited her
tenacity and zest for life. Her early years in Sacramento were filled with laughter, adventure, and a deep
connection to her family roots.
Throughout her life, Bernadine was known as a “sparkplug” — a vivacious and feisty individual who
enriched the lives of everyone she met. She was unapologetically opinionated, never shying away from a
good debate, especially when it came to politics. Her lively discussions were not mere arguments but
rather an expression of her passion for justice and truth.
An unwavering advocate for those in need, Bernadine was deeply involved in the Crohn’s and Colitis
Foundation, where she dedicated her time and energy to support and uplift individuals affected by these
conditions. Her commitment to this cause reflected her generous spirit and compassionate heart.
One of Bernadine’s joys was savoring good food. Bernadine had a profound love for music and movies,
embracing all genres as a way to connect with the world around her.
Her home was a sanctuary for animals, particularly the many dogs she adopted over the years. Her love
for animals was boundless, and each furry companion held a special place in her heart.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Tony and Carmen DeFazio, as well as her
brother Gerald DeFazio. Her legacy continues through her children, Anthony Sprigg, Tammy Korbmaker,
and Vicki Cosio, who carry forward her spirit and values. She was also the proud grandmother of three
grandchildren: Gabriella Sprigg, AJ Sprigg, and Zachary Korbmaker, each of whom brought immense joy
and pride to her life. She shared her last year’s spending time with her closest companion her dog
Buddy.
Bernadine’s life will be celebrated with a gravesite service on October 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at St. Mary
Cemetery & Funeral Center in Sacramento. Her family, friends, and all those who were touched by her vibrant spirit are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived.
As we say goodbye to Bernadine, we remember her not just for her fiery spirit and bold opinions, but for
her unwavering love and dedication to family, friends, and causes she held dear. Her life was a
symphony of joy, courage, and love, and her memory will forever be a blessing.
Reception at Tony & Christina Sprigg’s home immediately following the gravesite service.
