Sharon Stender

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sharon Stender who passed away on Wednesday January 3, 2024, in Sacramento, CA at the age of 77.  Sharon was born and grew up in San Francisco in a tight knit family with two sisters and one brother. Sharon graduated from Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, California where she fell in love and married Philip Moyer, and they were blessed with two children, Erik, and Shannon. Sharon’s devotion to her family was evident as she raised two children while actively participating in their lives and community. In addition, Sharon worked in various customer service and sales jobs over the years where she loved meeting new people on a daily basis.

Sharon had a very extroverted personality and anyone who was blessed to know her admired her daily dedication to bike riding and long-distance walking where she made many friends and acquaintances along the way. For her entire life, Sharon was a very devout Catholic who put God first and found great satisfaction in praying, going to church, and learning more about her faith. She also enjoyed going to restaurants and watching movies with friends and family on a regular basis.

Sharon met her second husband, John Stender. They married in June 1998 and resided in Tiburon until moving to the Sacramento area in 2017 to live closer to her son, daughter in law, and grandson. Sharon found immense joy in her grandson’s pursuits and worked countless volunteer hours as a Docent at Angel Island, Master Gardener landscaper, and at various fundraisers such as Run to Feed the Hungry and her grandson’s Catholic elementary school. Sharon and her loving husband, John, shared a life filled with cherished memories until her death. Sharon will be dearly missed, but forever remembered for her warmth, resilience, and lifelong love of people.

Sharon Stender is survived by her husband, John; her daughter, Shannon; her son, Erik, and his wife, Rhea; and her grandson, Matthew; and by her sister, Sandra. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecile and Martin Green; her sister, Nancy; her brother, Jack; and by her first husband, Philip Moyer.
